ADiE Roundtable – Outcomes of a three-year project

Since fall 2016, the ADiE project members have investigated potentials and challenges related to educating Artistic
Doctorates within Dance and Performance. They have specifically focused on charting the state of the art
and forwarding identified good practices. They have likewise sought to substantiate and enhance the impact
of on the creative industries and even beyond. Among other things, the partners of the project have;

– Produced a survey on how doctoral candidates and graduates, supervisors and creative industry
partners conceive of artistic doctoral education in dance and performance.
– Published learning material in the form of an anthology that looks at topical questions related to
conducting artistic doctoral research within dance and performance
– Produced material on supervision processes to support the specificity of supervising doctoral
research involving artistic practice
– Looked into future goals of research level education within dance and performance
– Implemented activities that support bridging academic artistic doctoral work with the field of dance
art.

The roundtable introduces the findings and outcomes of the project and specifically address
how on their basis artistic doctoral work impacts dance and performance art. The project members will
likewise address the focal topic of the conference by paying attention to who engages with and is included
in artistic doctoral education and the broader network of artistic research. Thus, the roundtable discussion
seeks to articulate characteristics of the politics that is involved in who is able to participate in artistic doctoral
research and related art practice. In so doing, it also reflects upon the kinds of hierarchies that are involved
in producing artistic work as part of a doctoral research project.
